A doctor has been struck off after performing "botched and unhygenic" circumcisions on baby boys.

Children were left writhing in agony after his dirty operations and on one occasion a baby boy was left screaming in agony when the anaesthetic wore off half way through the surgery.

NHS paediatrician Dr Mohammed Siddiqui - who carried out the operations as a sideline for cash - was branded ''callous and arrogant and contemptuous'' by a medical watchdog.

An investigation was carried out after four youngsters had circumcisions at their homes in Southampton, Bath, Birmingham and Reading for religious or cultural reasons.

The parents said the 49-year-old, who worked at University Hospital Southampton, did not wash his hands prior to the procedures treatment, did not wear surgical gloves, failed to carry out proper examinations and did not have proper resuscitation equipment
